USB DVB-C stick - compatibility

Post by vagabund » Sat Oct 20, 2018 7:20 am

Hi all,

I'm searching an extra DVB-C USB-stick (2 Tuners), and should run with the tv-mosaic Server on a RaspberryPi or a Synology NAS DS716+II. The System runs now with a tv-butler stick with a RaspberryPi, and it works great. I would attach the new stick to a power supplied USB hub. If I go to Linux TV Hardware list, I find this stick from Hauppauge

https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/ ... nTV-dualHD

https://www.amazon.de/Hauppauge-Fernseh ... odel+01590

Is this USB-stick also working with my configuration? Thanks

Michael

On a Raspberry Pi - yes, on a Synology - no.
For Synology you may use our TVButler.

Thanks for the info! That the stick is not working with my Synology is not a Problem, a RaspberryPi is for me the perfect 24/7 TV-Server.

I have now the stick Hauppauge WinTV Dual HD in use, but it does not work with the TV-Mosaic Server and RaspberryPI. TV-Mosaic (Windows) shows me a new tuner (Silicon Labs SI2168), but if I start a channel search (German DVB-C / Kabel Deutschland) the stick found no channels. The stick itself works with Windows 10 and the Hauppauge Software.
Here a Picture with the Tuners shown in the TV-mosaic Windows app.

To the stick itself, I believe I habe buyed a newer version as the 1590, but the LinuxTV side says this Version is working since the Kernel Version 3.16 (installed is 4.14)
Should I bring back the stick as not working under Linux, or replace with to older Version 1590?

Update - I have installed these two modules http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/Si2168/ to the folder /lib/firmware with a following reboot, now it works. I'm not a Linux pro, is this the correct way, the modules seems are very old?

lsmod | grep si2168

si2168 20480 1
i2c_mux 16384 1 si2168

This is, unfortunately, a normal practice on linux that firmware files have to be installed manualy.

I have the same setup as Vagabund, a Raspberry PI 3B running Raspbian with 1xTV-Butler but 2xWinTV-dualHD.

In my TV Mosaic settings all tree tuners show up, but the WinTV-dualHD only shows as single tuners. When testing the WinTV-dualHD tuners also only works as single tuners.

I have copied as describe above (but not sure it is correct) the "dvb-demod-si2168-01.fw" and the "dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw" file to the /lib/firmware directory. Both files are downloaded from the link provided by Vagabund. My WinTV-dualHD continues only to show as single tuners in the TV Mosaic settings and only works as single tuners.

How do I get the WinTV-dualHD tuner to work with both its tuners?

Thanks
