Problems with skipping back in Kodi

Post by Traxx » Sat Jul 14, 2018 4:53 pm

Hello,

since a while ago I have problems when skipping back.
In about half of the cases I skip back (30 second steps) in Kodi the Video hangs for about one and a half minute (! yes, not just few seconds) until it starts playing from the position I skipped to.
In the log it just says this:

Code: Select all

2018-Jul-14 18:22:33:   [I] playback_objects_t::start_object_streaming. Request for object F6F08949-2A07-4074-9E9D-423D877270BB/657-13918788765249812763-1528049700 of source 8F94B459-EFC0-4D91-9B29-EC3D72E92677

2018-Jul-14 18:24:03: [I] playback_item_streamer_t::handle_write: http write error. connection will be closed
2018-Jul-14 18:24:03: [I] playback_item_streamer_t::handle_write: http write error. connection will be closed
2018-Jul-14 18:31:59:   [I] command_service::process_command. Procesing command execute_command
The time difference between 18:22 and 18:24 is about the time it needs to think.
I checked all other causes like firewalls etc and thats not the problem...

What else could it be?

I just tried with a windows client and here the skipping in Kodi works really good.
So the source of the problem seems to be the Nvidia Shield TV and I remember it appearing when I updated it to Android 8 (Oreo).

Is there maybe a newer version of the Addon available or should I try Kodi 18?

Just did that and the skipping also works like a charm. So there has to be some incompatibility between Oreo and the addon version of Kodi 17 :(

Try MrMC on the Shield. You know Koying (ex Android dev Kodi/SMPC) is on board the MrMC Dev team for months already ;)
So expect better support for Android devices in the future with MrMC, compared to Kodi :idea:
DVBLink server 6.0.0 build14499, DVBLink TVSource 6.0.0 build14061, DVBLink for IPTV build 13107
TVMosaic server build 16899, Kodi 18.0-BETA3 Git:20180910-65fee74469, Win10 Pro x64 1809 build17763.55

I tried MrMMC yesterday for a while but it has many many limitations...
With Kodi I'm using Estuary Mod v2 which can be configured completely to my needs in terms of usability and on top can be made beautiful (colors, backgrounds etc.).
MrMMC doesn't offer any skin support and - even worse - no addon-support....

But for a mainstream-user it could be a good alternative to kodi because I needed 1 minute to get TVMosiac running with it.

And for my problem... I solved it using Kodi v18 - as they made a lot of changes to the player module its way faster and skipping in tvmosaic is nearly as fast as it would be opening files locally.
The only downside is that its still alpha with even the beta far away :(

Glad Kodi 18 solved your issue :-)
Surprised you just started to use Kodi 18, because i have been using it without many problems for almost a year already.

The reason I wanted you to try MrMC is because of ruling out issues with TVMosaic itself.

Of course, MrMC is limited regarding user addons etc, compared to Kodi and that is because MrMC is based on Jarvis (Kodi 16) and also because of the strict policies of the app store guidelines (from Apple/Amazon), where MrMC is available in. So the only addons/extensions you will find in MrMC are the ones that the MrMC devs put into it, so that they comply with app store guidelines.

Regarding Skins, expect Python based skins coming soon to MrMC to have more options in Skinning, because python has just been implemented into MrMC for several months already and is already being used in the MrMC Plex extension/addon (which looks way better than the native Plex app on my Apple TV 4K) .

Well, I was using v18 for a while back in 2017 but it had issues with TVAdviser (or the way it presented its contents to kodi with its API-change) back then, leading to some Info not to be shown. After that I changed v17 to my needs (made my own Estuary Mod for v17 as v1 - which is meant for v17 - is discontinued for ages) and it was running nicely and as there were other project in my life - I just used it.
Until the Shield Oreo Update came and the skipping problem occured. Secretly I wanted to switch back to Leia a while ago but there was no real urge ;-)

Its sad that the really good intent of MrMMC is thwarted by those store regulations. And - but this is a problem with most forks, including SPMC - they are always way behind when it comes to updating the core, here v16 vs. v18.

But as a conclusion to this thread it can happily be said that both Kodi v18 as well as MrMMC are indeed a solution for those using Kodi with TVMosaic on a Oreo Android box. :)
