Local (off-line) monitor

It seems that the Monitor function of the configurator utility is only available via a web page from TV-mosaic.

I would like to have a local utility which can be used without an Internet connection.

In DVBLink the monitor utility was local, only requiring a connection between the server and the monitor utility. Now we have to go via TV-mosaic.com. Why is that? It even raises questions about privacy!

TIA,

Bart

It was done in that way so that you can monitor activity of your server also without having a desktop application available/running.

Sorry, but I do not find that a strong argument. In my opinion, a web browser is also an application.

What about privacy?

What is your concern?

Well, although I cannot image that you are interested in what I am watching, the fact that there is a link (potentially) open to you, while I am monitoring what my system is doing, could (potentially) be used to gather information from me.

I simply fail to see what was wrong with the way it was done in DVBlink.

It is not open to us. It just loads script from our website. Further everything happens locally, including communication with your TVMosaic server in a peer-to-peer manner.

Yes, that is what I figured. But again, what was wrong with the way it was done in DVBlink?

In DVBlink, the server had to do the presentation/formatting of the data and serve it to the client. In TVMosaic, the server only has to provide the data to the client. Presentation and formatting is done at client side. So with TVMosaic, the server has less footprint (use less CPU, memory). With TVMosaic the client works much faster for me on Windows and also on Android, as both clients have more CPU power than my NAS has. Additionally the windows client has inbuilt viewer, what is also very welcome for me.

I don't doubt anything you say, but I still would like the client functionality for the monitor builtin in the TVmosaic GUI. Just like in DVBlink.
